BIC TIP #1227: Today Is the Day for Your CE
Today is the day. Most North Carolina brokers know it, but every year some find out the hard way. In this BIC TIP, Stephen Long reminds brokers that June 10 is one of the most important deadlines in their career, because it is the continuing education deadline.
Eight Hours, Two Parts
Every year, North Carolina brokers need to complete their CE by June 10: 4 hours of the Update course and 4 hours of an elective. Both parts matter. Finishing one and skipping the other still leaves you short.
Miss It and You Go Inactive
If your CE is not completed by midnight on June 10, Stephen explains that your license will go inactive on July 1. An inactive license means you cannot practice real estate or earn commissions as a broker until you get things straightened out.
There is also a blackout period. After midnight on June 10, you cannot take more CE until July 1. So if you discover the problem on June 11, there is no quick fix until the calendar flips.
If You Missed It, Get Back Quickly
For anyone who figures this out tomorrow, all is not lost. Stephen will be teaching CE courses starting on July 1, so brokers can complete their hours and work toward getting back to active status as soon as possible. If you are in that position, talk to your broker-in-charge about your transactions and next steps right away.
The Practical Takeaway
Check your education record today. If you have not finished your Update course and elective, do it before midnight on June 10. If you missed it, plan to take your courses as soon as the window reopens on July 1. The goal is simple: stay current, stay active, and keep serving your clients.
